Presidential hopeful Rand Paul attacked at his Kentucky home

He is the son of former U.S. Representative Ron Paul of Texas.

Kentucky State Police say they were called to Senator Rand's house in Bowling Green, just before 3:30pm on Friday. Upon arrival, troops determined Boucher "had intentionally assaulted Paul causing a minor injury", state police said. The statement said Paul was "blindsided" by the assault but Cooper did not provide further details. Stay with 8News online and on air for the latest updates.

According to the neighbor, Senator Paul and Boucher have had ongoing problems. As of Saturday afternoon, he was being held in the Warren County Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond.

"Kelley and I appreciate the overwhelming support after Friday's unfortunate event".

Paul, a Republican, received a minor injury, police said in the report. "Thank you for your thoughts and prayers".

Boucher is an anesthesiologist and pain specialist, according to the Bowling Green Daily News.

Boucher is an anesthesiologist and the inventor of the Therm-a-Vest, a cloth vest partially filled with rice and secured with Velcro straps that is created to help with back pain.

CNN was unable to reach a representative of Boucher on Saturday night.

KSP spokesman Jeremiah Hodges said the FBI was on scene to investigate whether the assault was politically motivated but was unable to elaborate on the status of that investigation.
