The Miss Universe 2017 title was awarded to South Africa's Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, the second time the nation won the title after winning in 1978. And after 39 years, Peters has taken home the crown.

However Miss Universe seems to have another tradition emerging-that the outgoing victor dons a certain Dubai-based designer.

The finale took place at The AXIS theatre of Planet Hollywood casino and resort in Las Vegas. "I am Miss Universe and this is for you".

The victor, 22-year-old Nel-Peters, will be given a yearlong salary and a luxury apartment in New York City for the duration of her reign. She was bestowed with the crown by last year's victor, Iris Mittenaere from France.

"I think we should have equal work for equal pay for women all over the world". PEters was in the top three along with Miss Colombia Laura González and Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett.

American TV host Steve Harvey wasn't scared to poke fun at his infamous gaffe in 2015, when he famously announced the wrong person as Miss Universe.

Nel-Peters accepts her crown from her doppelganger, basically - Iris Mittenaere, Miss Universe 2016 (and previously Miss France).
