How to Watch Patriots vs. Jets

I'm sure most of us didn't think that's what we'd be saying about this week 6, Pats-Jets match up. Their position looked even better when NY, football's ninth-worst team on third down, was still at their 12 after a couple of misfires.

The New York Jets played a pretty clean game as far as mistakes go. The next set of downs, they converted third and eight.

The game ended with the Patriots defeating their Big Apple rivals 24 to 17. If Wilkerson doesn't play, the key guy for New England to get a hat (or two) on when running the football is defensive end Leonard Williams, who is off to a bit of a slow start but has the ability to be an absolute force at stopping the run. Only when the New York Jets play the New England Patriots, apparently. Even if the adjustments came eventually, that's not a good sign moving forward. That gave the Patriots back the ball, with the Jets' sideline irate.

The Jets got one last chance to tie the game with 1:53 left in the game.

Best timing: Dont'a Hightower and Kyle Van Noy each took down McCown late in the fourth quarter to help salt away the win on the Jets' final drive.

With 8:31 left in the fourth quarter and the Jets trailing the Patriots 24-14, Josh McCown hit Austin Seferian-Jenkins for a four-yard touchdown that cut the lead to 24-21. Kony Ealy has proven to be one of the few bad examples of the Patriots cutting a good player and he is going to be fired to prove it to them today.

Considering the Jets lost the game by exactly seven points - and because the rule was not properly understood by the broadcast crew calling the game - this overturn will be looked at as arguably the single biggest reason the Patriots won the game. It also wasn't the prettiest of his 187 regular-season wins.

On the ground, Elijah McGuire rushed for 20 yards in 11 carries while AdDarius Stewart added 12 yards in tw attempts. He's now the sixth quarterback to hang 300 yards on New England this year. Dion Lewis scored the touchdown from there.

Such a Jekyll-and-Hyde approach might be OK against teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets, but when the competition rises - such as next Sunday night against the visiting Atlanta Falcons - what happens? Had a close call gone their way, it might have been a different outcome.
