This year's Emmys are bound to be more interesting than last year's, with many new series up for awards, including Atlanta, This Is Us, The Handmaid's Tale, Stranger Things, and Westworld. TV series like Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones, which have a loyal fan following, aren't on the list this time. Other series the Twin Peaks won't be able to be the part until 2018. NBC's long-running sketch comedy "Saturday Night Live" and HBO's futuristic robot drama "Westworld" started the Emmy race tied as the nominations leaders with 22 apiece.

Other exceptional shows competing this year include "The Handmaid's Tale", the first drama from streaming service Hulu to earn a best drama nomination; FX's "Feud: Bette and Joan"; Netflix's "The Crown"; FX's comedy "Atlanta"; and HBO's reliable victor, "Veep". Same with the case of Feud co-stars Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon.

The category of Best Comedy has been dominated recently by HBO's Veep, and it is nominated and favored once again. Last year's best drama victor wasn't eligible for Emmy consideration this year, because the HBO blockbuster premiered later than usual, outside the window of Emmy eligibility. We'll find out when the 2017 Emmys will be broadcast live on Sunday night.
