AAA says 2017 July 4th holiday travel will break record

At the rest stop along Interstate-71 North near Columbus, holiday travelers 10TV spoke to from as far away as NY and MI were pleasantly surprised to see Ohio's gas prices. Refineries temporarily shut down to produce cleaner-burning gasoline for the summer months, and demand from motorists typically rises with warmer weather.

The average is $2.28 per gallon, which is almost 12 cents cheaper than past year.

Rockford's average price is $2.24 per gallon, which is five cents cheaper than last week's price.

Gas Buddy shows the lowest price in Kansas City is $1.84, which makes sense after Monday morning US gas prices dropped.

According to Gasbuddy's daily survey of more than 300 outlets in the region, Manatee County stations were averaging $2.05 per gallon Monday, with Sarasota County at $2.11. Though global oil price benchmark rose to $56 a barrel earlier in April, it has cooled off in May and June, falling to about $45 a barrel.

The statewide average was higher than this area, at an average of $2.148. "It is just a matter of time before the national average bottoms out for the short-term".

A glut of oil supplies, and only modest summertime gains in consumption, have combined to keep oil and gas prices in check over the past month and during the July 4th holiday when prices usually increase. West Texas Intermediate crude futures settled Monday up 2.2 percent, or $1.03, at $47.07 per barrel.
