Powerball numbers drawn for 10th largest US lottery prize

One ticket sold in California matched all the winning numbers drawn on Saturday for the Powerball jackpot that soared to an estimated $448.7 million on a surge of last-minute buying, lottery officials said. Eastern Time. The drawing for the $435 million jackpot will take place Saturday, June 10. California is one of 44 states, plus Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, that participate in Powerball.

The lucky numbers drawn Saturday night were 20-26-32-38-58, and the Powerball number was 3.

A $2 ticket gives you a one in 292.2 million chance at joining the hall of Powerball champions.

About four months later, a Trenton woman and her seven adult children shared a $429.6 million Powerball prize. The odds of winning $7 are 1 in 579 while the odds of winning $4 are 1 in 92.

With fewer winners, the jackpot has the chance to grow bigger week after week. A jackpot closing in on half a billion dollars will do that.

The estimated prize is based on a victor choosing an annuity, which pays off over 29 years. But many economists argue that it's a regressive tax, since poor and working class individuals spend a much larger percentage of their money on lottery tickets than wealthier consumers.
