Aramazd Andressian Sr. remained in custody following his arrest in Las Vegas on Friday and is expected to be arraigned in Los Angeles later this week, L.A. County Sheriff's Department officials said at a news conference.

Five-year-old Aramazd Andressian Jr. has been missing since late April, following a week-long visit with his non-custodial father, Aramazd Andressian Sr.

The last confirmed sighting of the boy was with his father at 1 a.m. April 21 as they left Disneyland. The father's attorney called the disappearance a mystery and has said his client had gaps in his memory.

Aramazd Andressian, 35, was booked Friday afternoon on $10 million bail at the Clark County Detention Center on an out-of-state murder warrant, Metro said.

Detectives believe Andressian killed his son in an attempt to get back at his estranged wife for their "tumultuous" relationship, Mendoza said.

A $20,000 reward has been offered by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for information that helps authorities locate the child, who is white, with brown hair and brown eyes and a small mole on the bottom of his right shoulder. Aramazd Andressian Jr. has been missing for more than two months despite an extensive search by investigators that reached from his hometown to Santa Barbara.

"It may seem unusual to file murder changes when we have not yet found the child's body", Lacey said, she noting that the DA's office has successfully prosecuted such cases before.

Andressian, who detectives have said has given "inconsistent" and "misleading" statements, hired an attorney and refused to cooperate with investigators. When police made contact with Aramazd Andressian Sr. on April 22, it was at a hospital. Investigators also believe Andressian was planning to leave the U.S. and flee to a country that does not have an extradition agreement with the U.S., Mendoza said.

Andressian Jr. was reported missing by his mother on April 22 when Andressian Sr. failed to turn over the child to his mother for a scheduled custody exchange. Sheriff's officials say the father had taken prescription pills and was found in a vehicle doused in gasoline in what they say was an attempt to take his own life.

But the department would give no further details on what that evidence was, or what Andressian was doing in Nevada.

Almost a week after the boy was reported missing, Andressian released a statement through his attorney. Law enforcement officials intend to continue searching for the boy's body in Santa Barbara County, Mendoza said.

When he failed to meet with ex-wife Ana Estevez at their pre-arranged meeting place on April 22, the authorities were notified by the anxious mother.

"I miss him terribly", Estevez said in May. Investigators say that before his arrest in Las Vegas, he was socializing and behaving in a way not consistent of a grieving father. "Piqui was everything great in my life and I can not imagine the emptiness and the void that I will bear until we are together again one day", the statement said.
