Aric Almirola knew when his team unloaded the auto off the hauler and he ran a few practice laps in a limited session on Friday, he had a rocket ship for Saturday's Sparks Energy 300 NASCAR XFINITY Series event at Talladega Superspeedway. Allgaier gave up the lead to Logano on a Logano crossover move, but Almirola got by him. "Our Ford Mustang was super-fast today".

Clint Bowyer led the way in the brief practice with a speed of 196.822 miles per hour, followed by Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch and Joey Logano. In nine starts, he has six Top 10's. However, Almirola wasn't looking at the Xfinity race as a tune-up. Look for Logano to contend for the outright win this week as a lock to finish in the top-five at the GEICO 500. An incident occurred on the backstretch of the final lap involving Darrell Wallace Jr. and JJ Yeley, but NASCAR made the decision to not throw a caution flag letting the field finish under green.

Logano was third, followed by Ben Kennedy in fourth, then Erik Jones, Matt Tifft and Michael Annett.

"Man we were so close, aggravating, but so much fun". "Me and my spotter were so focused on (Logano)". Little E leads all active drivers with four wins here, while Keselowski has found victory lane at Talladega four times. "We only do this (type of racing) four times a year, so it's hard to be really good at it, or at least it's hard for me. We did everything that we could do".

The Friday night activities kicked off a weekend of racing that will culminate in Sunday afternoon's Monster Energy Series Cup GEICO 500. Logano has won two of the last three races at Talladega and is quickly becoming known for his dominance in restrictor-plate races.
