According to multiple reports, a woman who broke some White House barriers back in 2011 is now without a job: Angella Reid, the first woman White House chief usher, has been fired by the administration.
Ushers are essentially the general manager of the White House residence, and they oversee all of the decorating, dining, construction and maintenance, as well as the administrative and personnel functions.
While Sanders said it wasn't uncommon for staffs to transition between administrations, chief ushers typically hold their positions for longer tenures and through different presidencies.More news: Why FBI Director James Comey Says He's 'Mildly Nauseous'
There have only been nine ushers at the White House since 1885, so her abrupt removal by Trump makes her tenure extremely short compared to her predecessors.
Former White House staffers, such as Obama's deputy chief of staff Alyssa Mastromonaco, were outraged by Reid's dismissal. "If there is a very compelling reason for the dismissal, the White House needs to tell the public" he said.
Still, he added, "The basic residence staff stays there for a long time". Rochon, for instance, only left the job to take a role at the Department of Homeland Security.More news: House Passes Overtime Bill
Reid, who had 25 years experience in hotel management, happened upon the position at a pool party.
Reid took the role in 2011 during the Obama administration, replacing Adm. Stephen Rochon - who was the first African-American to hold the role when he was appointed in 2007. "She is definitely professional but you're not going to please everybody".
"The Trump administration seems anxious about Obama's spies", he said, "and there may have been a feeling that she wasn't on page with the Trumpians".More news: Long road ahead for Trump offshore drilling order
"These are the people that have the most intimate details and knowledge of how you live your life", McBride said when detailing the relationship between the residence staff and the first family. "There was more of an expectation that there are certain things that come with the White House".
